It was just like any other day for Cerise Mayo, who always expected the best from her swarm. She raised her bees in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and on Governors Island since May. All was well until Ms. Mayo grew suspicious of a different look borne by her bees. Not just one or two of them, the whole swarm was unusually different. Where there should have been golden amber through their honey-filling stomachs was instead a bright crimson. What was going on with the bees?
