Men Saved a Wolf Mistaking it for a Dog

Have you ever heard about the damsel-in-distress trope? There's always this daring man who comes to rescue her no matter where she's tied! It's just a tale as old as time, but put down only with storybooks. And surprisingly, the damsel in question here isn't always a beautiful young maiden. When the Estonian construction team heard a strange noise near a river, they halted everything and went near the bank. In no time, the three of them sprang into action to save someone, or perhaps, something...

In February 2019, Rando Kartsepp, Robin Sillamäe, and Erki Väli were busy working on Estonia's Sindi Dam. Suddenly, a faint sound of a trapped animal started filling the air around them. Without wasting a second, the men advanced towards the source of the noise.

When the construction workers reached the banks of the Pärnu River, they were shocked at what they saw. A poor dog was struggling to stay afloat on the water. The pooch was panic-stricken and splashing around, so this urged the men to take immediate action.

They didn't delay to dive into the freezing water in an attempt to rescue the helpless dog. But first, the men had to carve a trail through the thick blanket of ice that sat atop the water. And miraculously, they made it to the poor canine on time.

The men immediately wrapped the wet dog in a cozy blanket and did their best to dry off his dense damp fur. The poor dog was eventually shocked and trembling. Captivated by his looks, the men found something unusually different about the canine. And they'd never seen one like him before.

The dog that the men rescued from the river was quite strange. He had a long snout, thick coat, and he had glowing eyes. None of them were able to figure out the dog's breed. Neither the men nor the rescued dog seemed to show any signs of discomfort towards each other. Perhaps, the men didn't have time to dig the dog's origin.

The canine was safe on the land but was still shivering, and time was running out. It was a challenging situation for the poor pooch. The three men immediately rushed the dog to a pickup van and gently lay him down before calling the nearby veterinary hospital.

Upon instruction, the three men hurried the trembling dog to the hospital. The dog seemed to show severe symptoms of hypothermia, and he needed immediate medical assistance. The men had no time to spare and drove the van to the hospital.

The dog, which was already tired and cold, managed to get some sleep while the men drove as fast as they could. The team reached the hospital and admitted the canine for immediate medical supervision. Things seemed pretty smooth and timely, and the men were relieved. But the vet came out with a piece of shocking news.

The treatment was afoot, and meanwhile, the veterinarians had some news for the three men. The crew that was already confused about the dog's breed heard quite a shocking revelation from the veterinarian. The canine they rescued wasn't a domestic dog.

The doctors admitted that none of them knew the dog's breed. The puzzled vets immediately called a local hunter, with a vague hope to find the species of the canine. The man who arrived to solve the mystery of the unknown breed was very literate about wild animals and their species—the truth regarding the canine haunted everyone.

The skilled huntsman undoubtedly knew what their furry friend was. The canine that the men saved seemed to share most of the attributes of any other domestic breed. But the man couldn't shy away from noticing the canine's strange big teeth. The men were astonished—he was a wolf!

Things started to take a cautious turn from here. The wolf pup was caged until he showed signs of good health. As soon as his blood pressure was reasonable, the wolf started to feel on his legs again. And this meant that he was ready to head back home.

But before releasing him into the wild, the Estonian National Environmental Agency strapped the pup with a GPS collar. The GPS tracking system on the collar was a wise idea to track the wolf just in case he gets into any trouble again. The wolf was robust enough to join his pack back in the woods.

The construction team brought their wild friend, who was safe in a cage, to the region near the Pärnu River. They carefully opened the cage door and watched as the wolf pup walked on the snow, paw by paw. And the wild pup never turned back to look at his human friends.

Rando, Erki, Robin bid their furry friend goodbye while the wolf vanished into the dark woods. It was a bittersweet moment for the three men who developed a good bond with the untamed creature. Though they felt sad, the team was proud of its brave act of saving a life irrespective of its identity.

Days passed, and the construction men were still busy at the Sindi Dam. But none of them heard the wolf shriek for help again. Their furry friend seemed to have found his way, but the men still held their affection for the creature!
