Unusual Rescue Mission for Colorado Firefighters

The mission of firefighters doesn't end with putting off the blazing fire. Sometimes, they have to go to the extreme to save a life. It was just like any other day for the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The team is always used to getting SOS calls, but that day, they weren't prepared for what was going to happen.

Firefighters are not an emergency team for just extinguishing a fire. Sometimes, they are given the most challenging duties and rescue missions. From availing their presence for medical emergencies to bringing out trapped animals, firefighters never step back at any cost. This was one such mission that made them smile, but not for long.

It started as a normal day for the Colorado Springs Fire Department. They were attired in their regular protective suits and wore that eager look on their faces. The team seemed to be ready as usual. Anything could turn up through a call, and they were just getting geared up of the day. They finally get a call.

An Emergency Call Arrives

The CSFD got a call about some trapped animals that needed rescue. In a few minutes, the team answered that emergency call. The team has already rescued quite some animals in their previous rescue missions. None of them would have expected this one to be unique and strange.

They Had No Idea About Anything

Speeding over all the odds and other vehicles, the team reached the spot. There was no sign of fire anywhere, but they knew that there were some innocent lives that needed immediate help. The team showed no signs of worry as they carried years of experience in such things. It was a serious mission, but the team was prepared. They were confident in tackling the situation, but neither of them had any clue about what was going to happen.

The truck halted, and the firefighters boarded off the vehicle to the spot. The team soon reached a storm grate and realized that this was the ultimate hotspot of the emergency. Some poor animals were trapped in this grate, and if it rained anytime soon, things would get terrible for them.

There were no signs of rain, but still, the lives of these animals needed to be saved. The CSFD team knew that it was a critical mission. They never consider any life to be big or small, and whatever lay trapped in that grate needed its space in the world. The unfortunate grill looked simple from the outside, but in reality, it turned out to be a challenging spot.

The enclosure was quite deep and surrounded by eerie darkness. If that was not enough, the ambient was chill and dull. The firefighters didn't want to waste a second. They began discussing what to do next. It was an emergency, and they had no time to spare to the clock.

The animals that lay down the dark grate appeared to be tiny. Perhaps, this is why they were unable to get out on their own. And even if they tried, they wouldn't have been able to make it to the gaps in the sewer grate. The men hurried down the pit to bring the creatures to the surface. The firefighters started their mission.

First of all, the team worked together and moved the iron grate. The dark enclosure seemed to get some light, but the chillness still occupied the space. They heard the cries of the poor animals from below. The team realized that they were dealing with babies! The firefighters were puzzled about how they got there. The mother couldn't go down the sewer.

There was no clue how these small animals got down the storm grate. It would have made enough sense if they were found in the woods, or maybe in the bins. But down the crate? The firefighters looked puzzled and couldn't find the missing piece to the mysterious picture.

Without wasting more time, the firemen went into the sewer and carefully picked up the babies. They were newborns, and the team was shocked when they handled these delicate and furry creatures. The little black animals were pups! None of them could figure out how these poor pups got down the grate.

The CSFD team was confused about the situation. After talking to the person who informed them about the pups, they learned that they were swept away by a stream before landing into the storm grate. The firemen were quite relieved after discovering that the pups weren't left there on purpose. The crew was curious to know their breed.

The pups had shiny black fur and short hair. They looked like Labrador pups, and the team eventually agreed with the same thought. The firemen wanted to make sure the puppies were healthy. As soon as the pups were out of the sewer, they were taken to the Humane Society.

The pups were fine were pretty healthy. They looked a bit malnourished, but nothing seemed worrisome. After hearing the good news, the firemen thought that their job for the day was done. Mark Jenkins, a fireman from the CSFD, left his number with the vets to know any update about the rescued pups. And one day, he gets this call.

Mark did not expect to hear what the vet had to say about the pups. Perhaps, all of them were on the wrong track. And they were not puppies! They weren't a dog breed either. Mark Jenkins and the whole crew were shocked to hear this. If they were not dog's pups, what could they be?

The team later learned from the vet that the little ones they saved from the grate were fox cubs. In particular, the cubs belonged to the red fox breed. Nevertheless, the CSFD team was relaxed and happy that they saved a little wild gang. But this was not the end of the story. The vet alerted the team about the cubs' mother, who could be still near the spot from where they were rescued.

The firemen knew what they were doing, but they had no choice. They wanted to reunite the cubs with their mother, and this became their ultimate mission in the next couple of days. Reluctantly, they gently placed the cubs in the sewer drain. But this time, they stuck around to watch over the little ones. Did the mother fox arrive at the spot to fetch her cubs?

The sewer drain became the secret abode of the cubs once again. The firemen made sure to maintain silence and distance from the spot. They feared that their presence could spook the mother. Time was running out, and they hoped the mother fox arrived for her babies before nighttime.

Red foxes are smart and cunning animals. They are known to stay active at night. Sadly, the team didn't see any sign of the mother fox despite waiting at the spot through the night. The team stood there, hoping that she would return in the morning.

Unfortunately, the mother fox didn't show up. Though the firemen tried for a couple of nights, there were no signs of her anywhere near her cubs. The team couldn't do anything further but conclude that the mother would not return. But the survival of the cubs was the next big question. Did they decide to leave them in the sewer?

The firemen agreed on one thing before taking the most prominent action. They wanted to bring the cubs out and hand them over to safety. And they did it once again! The cubs were brought out of the sewer and taken to the Animal Clinic of Woodland Park. Maybe this was their new home.

The fox cubs found a good home at last. It was indeed a memorable rescue mission for the entire CSFD team. But such incidents happen all over the world. Animals are trapped in places where they cry for help, with some hope of finding a better home. If you ever come across a poor animal that needs to be rescued, don't hesitate to lend your helping hand.
