Biblical Secret that was Preserved in Mount Kilimanjaro

When ice cores were drilled from Mount Kilimanjaro in 2000, scientists began analyzing the priceless samples. Upon further investigation, they stumbled on something bizarre and shocking when they found that what they brought from the famous landmark unveiled something unbelievable before their eyes. Perhaps, the ice they unsurfaced didn't just unfold a great deal about how much our planet has transformed over the millennia. It also appears that Mount Kilimanjaro's ice cores could be evidence to support a piece of Biblical narration in the Book of Genesis.

Tanzania's Dormant Volcano Hid Some Stunning Secrets

That said, ice cores—including the samples from Kilimanjaro—might become a viable source that sheds light on various events in human history. Perhaps, ice cores provide pivotal clues and information about former climatic conditions on our planet. But the ordeal in Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's dormant volcano, paved the way for a tremendous discovery that routed to the holy scriptures.

The Discovery Eventually Shook the Scientists

But how can simple ice cores derived from an ice-capped peak tell so much about the planet's climatic changes? Well, various ice fields and glaciers were formed over millennia, and as each layer adds to the core, it eventually creates a record of the climate during that specific period. Perhaps, Mount Kilimanjaro had something hidden in its ice cores that were only unveiled to shake the belief of the expedition team in 2000.

The Ultimate Link to Biblical Narrations

The ice cores extracted from Mount Kilimanjaro did seem to confirm a narration from the Old Testament. And this tale eventually led the scientists to analyze a time before humans had evolved in Africa, flashing back to millions of years. Standing tall at over 19,000 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's tallest peak. It's also one of the highest free-standing mountains in the world. But how could it possibly narrate to Biblical belief?

The habitat around the dormant volcano is quite verdant for ecological sustenance. Approximately 1,000 square miles of the land surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro is abundantly forested, although local farmers cultivate the foothills. Most of the mount's rugged peaks also have a variety of stunning features, including secondary summits, ridges, and pinnacles formed by wind and rain erosion. Nevertheless, the ice cores have a strange secret along with the climatic history of the millennia.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the Millennial Heritage of East African People

Of course, for East African natives, Mount Kilimanjaro has been a famous landmark for thousands of years. Nevertheless, it was only in 1848 that two modern Europeans managed to get a close-up view of the lofty, ice-capped peaks. And eventually, the lucky men in question were two German missionaries, Johann Krapf and Johannes Rebmann. But none of them, including those who came in later, were able to traverse atop the majestic peaks.

The Potential of Volcanic Eruption

Mount Kilimanjaro crowns Tanzanian history with its three majestic peaks—all of which have formed from inactive volcanoes. This amazing trio comprises Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. However, of the three summits of the mount, it is believed that only Kibo would potentially erupt again in the future.

As for the highest of the three peaks on Mount Kilimanjaro, it appears that Kibo last erupted around 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. Evidence from this impeccably routes to the surface in the form of fumaroles—fissures in the rock surface that still emit gasses. All this proves that the mighty mount had some unbelievable facts to crack based on climatic deviations over thousands of years across the planet.

But when it was the dawn of the century in 2000, a team led by Ohio State University geologist Lonnie Thompson was quite justified with their mission of exploring Kibo, one of Mount Kilimanjaro's trio peaks that could potentially erupt again in the future. Eventually, the team camped on the mount's slopes to excavate the ice cores.

Getting the ice cores wasn't easy, either. For instance, a single operation led by Thompson required him to get no fewer than 25 different permits from various Tanzanian agencies. And after the team was given the green signal to proceed with their expedition, journeying up the mighty cliff with their equipment and tools was equally challenging.

Nevertheless, the Team Crossed Paths with a Biblical Discovery

Adding to the difficulty level, the ice core they planned to derive varied from 30 feet to 170 feet in length. Typically, Thompson and his team wanted to study the impact of climatic change on the ice that was capped on Kilimanjaro's majestic altitude of over 19,000 feet. Perhaps, none of them imagined that they would cross paths with another discovery that would make the world refer to a specific chapter in the Book of Genesis.

Their Millennial Discovery Routes Back to Joseph's Chapters in Genesis

Routing back to the era of the Biblical beliefs, it was the third drought from about 4,000 years ago. And seemingly, this ordeal lasted for over 300 years back then. The hard to believe fact was how this period impeccably tied with Joseph's story as narrated in chapters 37 to 50 in the Holy Book. Surprisingly, the tale is also found in the Islamic Qur'an and the Jewish Torah.

Flipping through the Holy Book's leaves, Joseph, who possessed the miraculous power of foretelling the future, set about storing vast quantities of food grain during the seven good years that followed. Eventually, the seven predicted years of drought and famine came along, and it was the exact period of drought as recorded in the Book of Genesis. Ultimately, it was the period which scholars claim took place between 3,600 to 3,700 years ago.

The Millennial Barren Period is Evident in the Ice Cores

It was something unusual that tied in with the amazing findings during Thomspson's expedition. The ice cores they drilled and excavated recorded the period of drought about 4,000 years ago, as mentioned in the Holy Book. To be specific, the evidence that these scientists had unfolded for this barren period also included a thin layer of dust in Mount Kilimanjaro's ice cores. Perhaps, along with the written account in Genesis, other ancient records indicate Egypt's troubled state during the days of drought.

Scientific Facts Stand By the Evidence Discovered at Mount Kilimanjaro

Perhaps, this stunning conjunction of Biblical fables and modern scientific facts concluded from Mount Kilimanjaro's ice cores helped unveil the thin line drawn between the planetary changes in climate and the ancient lifestyle that existed thousands of years ago. Nevertheless, modern scientific facts seemed to bolster the tale of Joseph's drought prophecy.

With the advent of science and technology, unknown discoveries might lead to seeing the world through the thin line of difference that has been in its hideout for thousands of years. Perhaps, Thompson and his expedition team did manage to survey something from Mount Kilimanjaro's ice-capped peak and connected the discovery to a Biblical incident that took place thousands of years ago.
