Jaden Smith Reveals He's Opening A Restaurant To Serve Homeless People Free Vegan Food

Jaden Smith has made quite unconventional and unexpected decisions over the years. Some could even go as far as calling these decisions of Will Smith's son impulsive. But when he decided to open up a free vegan restaurant for homeless people around his city, many appreciated Jaden's step to do his bit for those in need. However, the reason behind this sudden decision was anything but dreamy. In fact, it had quite a devastating and shocking truth behind it.

A Noble Deed

A few days before his 21st birthday, Jaden Smith took to the social media platform Instagram to announce something big. However, the limelight constantly brings unwanted public and media scrutiny. Even in this case, people soon started speculating what could have been the reason behind this sudden step! And some of them guessed it right! Looking back at Jaden's past, the answer becomes clear.

I Love You Restaurant

Jaden decided to launch a food truck restaurant for the homeless people in Downtown Los Angeles. Additionally, it was going to be completely free and the first of many in line! He named the vegan food truck "I Love You Restaurant." The initiative came straight from the heart. But the reason behind this decision lies much deeper.

A Healthy Movement

Posting on Instagram, Jaden wrote, "I Love You Restaurant is a movement that is all about giving people what they deserve, healthy, vegan food for free. Today we launched our first one-day food truck pop-up in Downtown L.A. Keep a lookout because this is the first of many." Apart from a few skeptics, people soon came in support of Jaden. But could they imagine what kind of life challenge prompted Jaden to take such a step?

Celebrities Support the Initiative

Jaden's unique bid to give back to a society caught the attention of big names, including Bella Thorne, Kevin Hart, Travis Barker, Nick Cannon, SZA, among others. Soon enough, his feed was flooded with messages of appreciation. But there were a few who linked this to Jaden's past—his excruciating and personal life experience!

A Few Years Ago

A few years back, all of a sudden, people had started noticing something shocking about Jaden. He was not looking the same! Stomachache, weakness, dark circles under the eyes, and a pale hue to the skin—what could cause such critical changes in Jaden Smith's health? The shocking truth was revealed after the hospitalization of the young artist.

Looking Like A Deadman

Jaden was looking for himself, trying different directions and beliefs. Because of one of them, the young man claimed that he identified himself as a vampire, feeling allergic to the sun. Was it fiction or a kind of rare disease, fans can only guess? But the last of Jaden's occupation induced more dreadful consequences and caused an even more significant aggravation of the star's condition.

Rejection of the Family Name

With burgeoning popularity, Jaden felt that something was stopping him from total success. Was it his family name? Desiring to make his own name as a brand, the artist was ready to give up his surname. Moreover, he wanted to completely separate from his family and start living independently. Such intentions shocked and baffled Jaden’s parents. Unfortunately, their fears turned out to be unwarranted.

Constant Confrontations

Living his own life, Jaden supported and shared specific trends. Wearing skirts and dresses could seem odd and unclear to the audience. However, such action brought Jaden to the mainstream and helped him keep pushing boundaries. Regrettably, his other resolute decision was equally opposite and only brought Jaden demanding health and mental problems. Even parents knowing about his radical choice couldn’t predict such horrific results.

Devastating Illness

Despite suffering from a severe stomach ache and feeling constant weakness, Jaden wasn’t going to seek medical help. Even worse, he turned down any attempts by his parents and sister to help him cope with aroused troubles. Such stubbornness led Jaden to the critical condition and induced hospitalization. But the reason for his illness stunned everyone!

A Young Celebrity

With Will and Jada Smith as his parents, Jaden was destined to live a life under the spotlight. Though some might argue that it might have been a bit too early for little Jaden. Jaden's career in Hollywood started way earlier than some of his peers, with his first appearance in The Pursuit of Happyness alongside his own father. His performance in the movie was well-received, but that was only the beginning for little Jaden.

All of Us

While The Pursuit of Happyness was the first time little Jaden acted in movies, it wasn't his first appearance on the screen. Prior to his performance in The Pursuit of Happyness, he made recurring appearances in the series All of Us, starring as little Reggie. But as we said, this was only the beginning of his career.

Jaden's Acting Career

Despite his young age, his acting career took off shortly after, perhaps partly due to his parents' influence in show business. His next big movie was The Day the Earth Stood Still, which was released in 2010, and little Jaden managed to join the cast at the mere age of 12. In the following years, little Jaden began to be a household name, a face that everyone could recognize.

Alongside Jackie Chan

Every actor dreams of their international break, where they would star in a movie that's released internationally, with their face recognizable all around the world. For little Jaden, that time came pretty early in 2010 when a remake of The Karate Kid was released, where he was starring alongside Jackie Chan in this remake of a classic teenage movie. The movie had a mixed reception, but one thing was for sure: everyone knew Jaden Smith by then.

Not An Easy Path

Hollywood isn't for everybody, and not every movie that comes out would be well-received, or worse, some might never even see the light of day. Having been around the show business for decades, Will and Jada Smith knew this very well, but little Jaden still has a lot to learn. While the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid wasn't so well-received, After Earth came out three years later, and it turned out to be a complete failure.

After Earth

We are not sure if you have seen the movie, but many have claimed that the movie was an utter failure—it was not well-received, to put it lightly. Some people even went as far as to claim that it was the worst family feature ever made, but we will let you be the judge of that. Whatever you think of this film, it appeared that it left an impact on the young Jaden.

A Brief Hiatus

Perhaps it was due to something else, or perhaps it was due to the poor performance of the movie, but whatever the case is, it seems that after the release of After Earth, Jaden took a break from acting for quite a few years. His next screen appearance wouldn't come until a few years later. Meanwhile, he decided to shift his focus to something else, something that his father was doing at some point as well.

A Career in Music

Jaden's initial involvement in music can be traced all the way back to 2010 when he appeared in Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never." It was such a huge hit that it actually reached the Billboard Charts, something that baffles us to this very day... but anyway, Jaden had a headstart in the music industry as well, and it didn't take long for him to start branding himself as a musician.

The Cool Cafe

The Cool Cafe? Can you guess what that is? A place where all the cool people hang out? Maybe, but that's also the name of the first mixtape that Jaden released back in 2012. The tracks are pretty cool, actually, so we guess calling it The Cool Cafe might not be a bad choice after all. At the time, he was only a teenager, but his music career already began to take off.

Mixtapes and More

Perhaps it was something that he inherited from his parents, but we gotta say that Jaden got real talent when it comes to music. Sure it was mainstream, but there was something special about it, something original about it despite his young age. In later years he continued producing music, including sequels to his previous mixtapes, appropriately named The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 2, or known as CTV 2. But his music didn't just stop at mixtapes!

Jaden's Very First Album

In the years that followed the release of his first mixtapes, he began to work on his very own debut album—not just mixtapes from other songs, but his very own materials. It was a long process that took him a few years, but in 2016 he announced the name of the upcoming debut album: Syre.

Syre

We actually mentioned the word Syre earlier in this article. Do you remember when? That's right, Syre is actually Jaden's middle name, a fitting title for a debut album, we gotta say. After working on it for a few years, Syre was finally released in late 2017, when Jaden was only 19.

More Albums

At the young age of 22, at the time of writing, Jaden Smith had already made a name for himself as a rather prolific musician, releasing multiple albums over the years. In 2020 Jaden finally released the last of the mixtape "trilogy," appropriately named CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3. At this point, perhaps you can see a parallel between his and his father's career—so what do they have to say about it?

A Peculiar Parallel

For older audiences, you might remember that Will Smith started as a musician (artist) who then transitioned himself into the movie business, and the rest, as they say, is history. Meanwhile, for Jaden, it happened to be quite the opposite, starting with movies and moving to music. So, what does Jaden think of this parallel?

Will Smith's Influence

While talking about his father's influence on him as an artist, Jaden said of the following, "He started in music and transitioned to movies. I started with movies, and then I transitioned into making music–I look at him and use it as a blueprint of how good of a person he is, but not necessarily the success that he reached."

Returning to the Silver Screen

A few years after the release of After Earth, Jaden finally made his return to the silver screen, albeit rather low profile compared to his earlier works. According to IMDb, his first movie appearance after the release of After Earth was in a TV movie called Brothers in Atlanta. But of course, that wasn't his only screen appearance in recent years.

Brief Appearances

We are not sure if you've noticed this - but in recent years, while we still hear about Jaden Smith, they are often about other things such as his music and controversies, rather than his appearances in movies. That's because, in recent years, he shifted his focus away from cinema. But there was one particular film that he actually took part in and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Skate Kitchen

It's not often that an actor gets to star in a movie related to their hobbies. So if you are wondering if Jaden Smith learned how to skate when he starred in Skate Kitchen, no, Jaden was actually an avid skater before taking part in the movie, and this certainly lent itself to the movie's success. Now, after all these paragraphs, you must have a pretty good understanding of what Jaden went through. Now it's time to move on to his more personal side.

Troubled Upbringing

As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, little Jaden started homeschooling at a very young age, which left an everlasting impact on the young artist. Of all the negative impacts it had on Jaden, one of the biggest impacts is perhaps the fact that he finds it difficult to communicate with people sometimes, especially with his peers.

Introverted?

We don't know Jaden well enough to say whether he is an introverted person. Still, based on what we can see so far, he does have a hard time understanding and communicating at times, something that is pretty apparent whenever controversies surrounding him arise.

Engulfed in Controversies

In recent years if you hear the name Jaden Smith, the first thing that comes to mind is often the controversies he was involved in. Now, we are not one to judge, but here are things Jaden did or say in recent years that have raised some eyebrows for a lot of people...

Narcissism

Many have criticized Jaden's narcissism, or sometimes a general lack of understanding, before placing his own judgment. In 2013, he advocated for kids to drop out of school while criticizing the traditional education system; Jaden is also a strong believer in conspiracy theories who often took to social media to share his views. However, one of the biggest controversies is perhaps the emancipation ruling.

Emancipation

Jaden Smith made headlines when he was 15 when he asked to be legally emancipated from his parents. Although he didn't go through the process in the end, Jada, his mother, recalled the moment, "I remember thinking to myself, as devastated as I was, I was like, ‘He’s right.’ The time is now. He’s 15. It’s time for him to leave the house.” While being independent isn't a bad thing, no one was quite sure if Jaden could support himself, even to this day.

Making His Own Decisions

At the age of 22, Jaden is already wealthier than most of the kids of his age, if we don't count all the millionaires' kids out there, of course. Jaden had already established himself as a prolific artist, which is a feat in itself. However, despite his success, he also made some questionable decisions that ended up requiring intervention from his parents.

Declining Health

In 2019, Jaden was seen in public all drenched out - sloppy eyes, unhealthily skinny, which led to speculation about what had happened to the young artist. Things were not looking good for Jaden, and we were not the only ones who were concerned. It turned out that colossal harm to the health of a celebrity was caused by nutritional, vitamin, and omega-3 deficiencies. The pitfalls were hiding in Jaden’s special diet.

His Vegan Diet?

Jaden had been pretty vocal about his choice to be a vegan, and he had been a vegetarian for quite some years. Some people speculated that his transition to veganism was what led to his declining health. At some point, his health was in such a bad shape that it requires intervention from his parents. But was it really because of veganism?

The Intervention

"Will and I had a bit of an intervention with Jaden because he's a vegan now, but we realized he wasn't getting enough protein. So he was wasting away," Jada said. In 2019, Will and Jada Smith appeared in an episode of Red Table Talk, voicing their concerns over Jaden's declining health. As it turns out, though veganism was one of the reasons that led to Jaden's declining health, it wasn't really the main reason.

Eating Habit

Veganism certainly influenced Jaden's health, but it wasn't the main reason; it was mostly Jaden's irregular diet and lack of nutrients intake that led to his declining health. While veganism doesn't pose a big concern normally, vegans do need to take supplements that are otherwise only available in meat and dairy products, such as vitamin B12, a thing that was lacking in Jaden's diet. Also, Jaden said it himself that sometimes he would find himself only having one meal a day, which is definitely lacking for an adult-like himself. But did Jaden manage to turn things around?

Getting Back on Track

Now aware of the situation, Jaden had since made adjustments to his diets to make sure he's getting enough nutrients, and more importantly, having a regular number of meals per day. He also decided to stop following the vegan diet. Instead, these days, he went back to vegetarianism, something that's been easier on the young artist's body compared to veganism. Judging from the photos we saw this year, he's definitely looking better!

So, this was the story of Jaden Smith and his noble act. Maybe it stemmed from the fact that he learned from his failing health, inculcated good habits, and wanted to help those in need. Luckily it wasn't so much of sickness that a decent diet cannot help. Now everything's back on track, and he's living a healthy life again. What do you think about this article?
