Enduring the pain of wax for hair removal does not compare to the methods used in the Renaissance. Women used to use poisonous arsenic to get rid of unwanted body hairs. The procedure was effective but slowly poisoned the ladies, causing them to suffer horrible symptoms.



Long before they invented Photoshop, painters of that era set impossible standards of beauty. Painting and sculpting women utterly free of any body hair; they had to find a solution. Because women couldn't reach those standards, they had no choice but to rub poison on their bodies without knowing the damage they caused to their health.
