According to a statement from the medical examiner shared with People, the daughter of Chad and his producer wife, Kim Painter, was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 1:14 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29.

On Thursday, October 1, the medical examiner's office ruled the manner of death a suicide. Chad, the younger brother of Rob Lowe, announced his daughter's passing on Tuesday in a statement in which the family appeared to allude to how she died.

"We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona," they said. The family remembered Fiona as "a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance."

"She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents," the family said, adding, "In fact, she was the light of our lives."

"Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988," the statement concluded.

Shortly after the news broke, Chad's father, Chuck Lowe, honored his granddaughter's life. On Wednesday, September 30, he paid tribute to Fiona on Instagram with a throwback photo of her swimming in a pool.

"Rest in peace sweet Fiona," Chuck wrote in the caption. Fiona was the second of Chad and Kim's three daughters; the couple are also parents to Mabel, 17, and Nixie Barbara, 10.

After news of Fiona's death broke, a source remembered the teen as "sweet, quiet and kind," revealing that both her middle school and the wider community are devastated.

"This is a devastating time for the community," the insider shared. "The Lowe family is very involved and are at many school functions. Fiona was sweet, quiet and kind. Dance was her biggest passion, she had a very artistic soul."

The insider also revealed that the teen's school and community are coming together to honor her memory. "The school and community are very inclusive, artistic, a warm place. Parents are friends and most are involved with the school," the source said.

The tragedy comes after the Lowe family endured the heartbreaking loss of their home in the Pacific Palisades Fire in early 2025. That February, Chad revealed that the family had gone to see the remains of the house where all three girls grew up.

"Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what's left of their home," he wrote in an Instagram post at the time.

"The way they've handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable. I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life's greatest joy and privilege ⭐️⭐️⭐️."
