Travis Scott Recounts How Christopher Nolan Asked Him to Be In ‘The Odyssey’

Before stepping into Christopher Nolan's Greek epic, Travis Scott's only screen credits were his own music videos. That all changed with one unexpected phone call from the acclaimed director himself.

Travis Scott is looking back on his first major film role and how the opportunity landed in his lap. The "SICKO MODE" hitmaker opened up about starring in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," which hit theaters on Friday, July 17.

Prior to this part in the Greek-epic-inspired blockbuster, acting was completely new territory for the musician, whose career had until then unfolded almost entirely behind the mic.

Still, Nolan reached out to him personally to join the cast. The pair had crossed paths before, when Scott contributed the end-credits track to Nolan's Robert Pattinson and John David Washington-led film "Tenet."

"My phone went off and it just said, 'Chris.' And I'm thinking, like, 'Okay, I don't know what this is about. Maybe he wants to go to a show?'" Scott recalled during a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

"I'm like, 'Okay, what's this about?' So I pick up and he's like, 'Would you be interested in acting in a movie?' And I'm like, 'I mean, I guess, you know? What's the [role]?'" he continued. "But I didn't think it was for him. I thought it might be for somebody else."

He said Nolan then told him that he was working on a movie that was "coming out soon," and he told him, "And I want you to kind of be in it."

"I'm like 'Whoa, hold on. Wait. Wait. You know I make music?'" Scott said with a laugh. "And then he gave me his whole thesis on why."

"I really enjoy his time. I'm really inspired by him, he's a real mentor of mine outside of this. And so I'm like, 'Yo, whatever you're down with, I'm down. However it goes, I'm with it,'" Scott said.

Host Jimmy Fallon replied, "You crushed it. You were great in the movie."

"I was actually nervous as 'F,' but it worked out," Scott responded.

Fallon pointed out that Scott shared several scenes with much of the main cast, a detail that caught the rapper off guard too, since he'd assumed he'd mostly be working alongside extras in a single scene.

"I didn't know that it was going to be Anne Hathaway, Tom [Holland] and Robert Pattinson — a bunch of like, amazing people. […] And I don't know what the [expletive] I'm doing. But they were such [an] amazing cast, you know?" the rapper explained.

"[And] Chris is an amazing director. Everybody made me feel comfortable. I was just glad to be there and just watch him. And being in such a world of them. So I'm just glad to be here," he added.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Scott revealed that his acting offer "surprisingly" came before Nolan asked him to record the end-credits song, "When I'm Home." He also shared how his loved ones back home celebrated this new chapter of his career.

"It feels way different. My parents, even my school counselor. Even my theater teacher from my high school, they reached out to my mom. You know this is like another stratosphere, [of] like greatness," he shared.

"The people that always [are] like scolding you in school, trying to make you a great human. [They're] like, 'You finally did something good,'" he said of their reaction to him being in "The Odyssey."
