Kelly and Sharon Osbourne Detail Memories with Ozzy at Storied Sunset Marquis

Long before the Osbournes settled into a permanent Los Angeles home, one hotel doubled as their unofficial summer headquarters.

Kelly and Sharon Osbourne are reflecting on the special place the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles held in their family's history, alongside the late patriarch and rock icon Ozzy Osbourne.

The pair appeared in the new documentary "If These Walls Could Rock," which traces the storied past of the West Hollywood hotel.

In the film, Sharon explained that the family spent each summer there while Ozzy toured the US, back before they owned a home of their own in Los Angeles. The setup suited a family of five, and it also preserved the rocker's "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" image.

"He would love it here because he could wander. He could wander around outside in the garden. In those days he'd smoke," Sharon recalled.

She described how Ozzy would greet the guests staying in different bungalows as he strolled the grounds, adding, "It was like you were in your own home with a lot of friends."

Looking back on those summers, Kelly called the Sunset Marquis "the only hotel that [her] dad could stay in, at the time, where [he] could be himself."

"We'd be kicked out of everywhere, but not the Sunset Marquis," Kelly said, adding, "My dad could misbehave politely here."

Kelly recalled feeling "like a little Eloise" as she roamed and explored the property during those childhood summers. As she got older, the hotel also became the backdrop for her teenage escapades.

"I had my first drink in this hotel. I had my first kiss in this hotel. I did my first line of cocaine in this hotel… which was given to me by one of my dad's friends in a very very very big band, and I could never tell my parents because they would [expletive] kill him," she said.

Elsewhere in the documentary, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons shared a memory of one particular party at the hotel that Ozzy helped turn into a Sunset Marquis legend.

"Ozzy Osbourne happened to be at the pool at the Marquis. He signaled me over... and he knew about a restaurant called Le Pirate," Gibbons recalled. "At the end of the night, you would toss a glass, and he said, 'Maybe we should make that part of the Marquis.'"

Gibbons noted that plenty of people were barefoot at the time, but Ozzy insisted on trying it anyway. When he smashed his glass, dozens of others quickly followed his lead.

"And then everybody got in on the action. Within 30 seconds, every glass that had been surrounding the pool was now in shatters. And it became so dangerous that nobody could leave," Gibbons said.

He added, "So the party went on until the wee hours. That's the kind of [expletive] that happens at the Marquis."

Ozzy died in July 2025 at age 76, following a years-long battle with Parkinson's disease. His passing came just weeks after his farewell concert with Black Sabbath in his hometown of Aston, Birmingham.

Days later, he was honored with a funeral procession, during which thousands of fans lined the streets to pay their respects before a private send-off was held with his immediate family.
