It’s official. A “Glee” reboot is on the horizon, and stars of the hit musical series are hinting at their possible return.

On October 21, Disney+ and Hulu announced that “Glee” is coming back, sharing the news on Instagram with the caption, “Currently gleeking out!” The reboot has received a series order and comes from 20th Television, the studio that produced the original series.

“Glee” first hit the screens via Fox in 2009, running for six seasons until 2015. The show centered on members of a high school glee club in Lima, Ohio, as they competed on the show choir circuit. Co-created by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and Brad Falchuk, the show won six Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes throughout its run.

Murphy has been hinting at a revival for months. “So many young people now watch it,” he told People in July. “And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.’”

In September, Murphy confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that a script had been written. “We have a script. Brad, Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something,” he said, adding he’d been in touch with “around 10 of the original cast members,” who “were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

At this point, there has been no official casting announcement yet, but Deadline reported that three original stars are in talks to return. Lea Michele may reprise her role as Rachel Berry, while Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet may also return as Brittany S. Pierce and Sam Evans, according to sources.

If it’s any indication of her participation, Morris shared a photo of herself in Brittany’s cheerleading uniform on Instagram, joking that her character had been “lost in the sewers for all these years” but is now “alive and well... And back for more #Glee.”

Meanwhile, Overstreet shared in the excitement of a reboot, writing on X, “Reunited and it feels so good!”

Other cast members appeared to have expressed interest in returning to the show, too. Kevin McHale, who played Artie Abrams, reposted a 2020 report about Drake passing the “Glee” cast for the most Billboard Hot 100 hits, then wrote, “Challenge accepted.”

Even before news of the reboot made headlines, Michele had expressed her fondness for the series. “I will always love Glee. I love Ryan Murphy,” she told E! News in September. “I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”

And Jane Lynch, who played cheer coach Sue Sylvester, told Kylie Kelce on her podcast, “I’d be the first in line to do it,” even though, at the time, she hadn’t heard anything about a reboot

While some familiar faces may return, the reboot will happen without three beloved original cast members who have died since the show premiered: Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, and Mark Salling.

For fans who’d like a refresher while waiting for the reboot, all six seasons of the original “Glee” are available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
