Ella Bright Says She Understood the Role Before Filming

Bright, who plays Hannah in the adaptation of Elle Kennedy's best-selling "Off Campus" books, told host Amanda Hirsch during the May 26, 2026, episode of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast that she was 18 when the series was filming.

Her costar Cameli, who plays hockey star Garrett, is nearly ten years older. The age difference has sparked some online discussion, especially because the series includes romantic and intimate scenes. However, Bright said she entered the project fully aware of the material.

"It's very funny," she said, explaining that she came into the chemistry reads with "more than enough information and knowledge and understanding" of what the role and show required. Bright added that she quickly connected with the character and the scripts, sharing:

"Off Campus" follows students at the fictional Briar University, where an elite college ice hockey team navigates love, friendship, and early adulthood.

Bright's character, Hannah, is a music student who begins a fake dating arrangement with Garrett in hopes of getting the attention of her crush, Justin, played by Josh Heuston.

However, the plan becomes complicated when Hannah and Garrett's pretend relationship starts turning into something real.

She Said the Cast Made Her Feel Comfortable

Bright also said she understood why fans might be protective, but stressed that her age never made her feel isolated on set. "I get people's concern," she said, before adding that she never felt left out because she was younger than the rest of the cast.

According to Bright, the group quickly became close, and the environment made her feel at ease while filming. "We're all such a family," she shared, adding that everyone involved was "more than perfect."

Bright also pushed back on the idea that she needed outside concern over the scenes, saying her reaction to the comments was simple: "I'm good."

Bright's latest comments came after she spoke warmly about Cameli earlier in May at Creation Entertainment's Page, Screen and Everything in Between convention.

Hirsch also weighed in during the podcast, noting that Bright was playing an adult college student. While the host acknowledged that the material could be "raunchy," she said it was not "insane." Bright then addressed the show's nudity, explaining that expectations were made clear before filming began.

She said her role involved partial nudity, while costar Mika Abdalla knew from the beginning that her character, Allie, would require full nudity. "Everyone had full understanding of what we were going into," Bright revealed.

Bright Previously Praised Cameli Off-Camera

Bright's latest comments came after she spoke warmly about Cameli earlier in May at Creation Entertainment's Page, Screen and Everything in Between convention.

She recalled meeting him during the chemistry reads when they performed Hannah and Garrett's first kiss scene without actually kissing. Bright said the moment was playful because they would get close before the team called cut.

Off-camera, she described Cameli as "the best" and said they became friends quickly after exchanging numbers at the chemistry reads. Bright added:

"We have so much fun together. He's the greatest."

The actress also revealed that their long filming days helped build their bond and made it clear that her respect for him went beyond their work as scene partners. "I really look up to him a lot," she said.
