The hunt for the next James Bond has officially started. With a new director, a new creative era, and one of Hollywood's most recognizable roles now vacant, the future of the James Bond franchise is beginning to take shape.

Gold reportedly did not comment publicly on her involvement, though a source familiar with the production confirmed that she had joined the project.

The veteran casting director is known for her work on major franchises and high-profile productions including HBO's "Game of Thrones," Netflix's "The Crown," and several "Star Wars" films.

Her previous casting credits also include "Les Misérables," "The Martian," and "Conclave." In 2025, she received an Academy Award nomination for "Hamnet" during the first year the Oscars introduced a casting category.

The next Bond film is already shaping up to be a significant turning point for the franchise. Earlier this year, longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson stepped back from overseeing the series after agreeing to a new joint venture with Amazon MGM.

While the pair remain co-owners of the franchise, Amazon MGM now has creative control over future Bond projects. The upcoming film will also mark the first Bond installment directed by Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind "Dune," "Arrival," "Blade Runner 2049," and "Sicario."

Even before auditions officially began, speculation surrounding the next Bond has remained intense.

Villeneuve spoke about his longtime connection to the franchise in a statement released by Amazon MGM Studios on June 25. "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007," the director said.

"I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since 'Dr. No' with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come," he continued.

The film will be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, while "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer. Craig was the most recent actor to portray Bond, appearing in five films between 2006's "Casino Royale" and 2021's "No Time to Die."

Before him, Pierce Brosnan led the franchise during the 1990s and early 2000s, following previous Bond actors including Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and George Lazenby. Even before auditions officially began, speculation surrounding the next Bond has remained intense.

Actors including Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Aaron Taylor-Johnsodn have all reportedly emerged as rumored contenders for the role. For now, however, the identity of the next 007 remains one of Hollywood's most closely guarded casting mysteries.
