For Bella Murphy, acting was never a passing childhood phase. Long before she landed roles alongside some of Hollywood's most recognizable last names, she already knew exactly where she wanted to be.
But despite being the daughter of Eddie Murphy, one of comedy's biggest stars, Bella's path into the entertainment industry came with strict boundaries.

Eddie Murphy's Rule Changed Bella Murphy's Perspective
Now starring in Netflix's "Roommates," Bella is sharing how her father's decision to keep his children out of professional acting until they turned 18 pushed her to work even harder behind the scenes. In a recent interview with People, Bella revealed:

"I would always ask my dad, 'Can I please be an extra in this movie, please?' He'd always say, 'No.'"

Instead, Eddie, now 65, wanted his children to experience a normal childhood away from the pressures of Hollywood. "Which I'm very appreciative of," the young actress noted.
Still, Bella admitted that the restriction only intensified her passion for acting. Knowing she had to wait motivated her to prepare as much as possible before entering the industry professionally.

By the time she turned 18, acting had become more than an interest — it was the career she had already committed herself to pursuing. The actress also credited her upbringing around movie sets for inspiring her ambitions.
Watching her father work gave her a firsthand look at filmmaking and sparked her fascination with the industry at an early age. Bella recalled thinking the profession looked like "the coolest job ever."

Family Inspiration Played a Major Role
Bella said her older sister, Bria Murphy, also influenced her decision to pursue acting. At first, she joked, part of her interest came from wanting to copy her sister. The young actress humorously added:
"She wanted to be an actress before I did, and I was doing the younger sister, like 'I'm going to copy you.' And then it worked out. It was actually what I wanted to do, so that was cool."

Over time, though, the passion became entirely her own. That determination eventually led Bella to her feature film debut alongside Eddie in 2021's "Coming 2 America."
Now, she is stepping into a bigger spotlight with Netflix's "Roommates," where she stars opposite Sadie Sandler, daughter of Adam Sandler.
The film leans into its cast's famous family connections, featuring several celebrity children, including Laura Dern's daughter Jaya Harper, Chris Rock's daughter Zahra Rock, and Martin Scorsese's daughter Francesca Scorsese.
The script even jokes about "nepo babies," something Bella said she found genuinely funny rather than uncomfortable.

Landing the role proved especially meaningful because of her admiration for Adam. Bella revealed she was getting press-on nails done when she received the news and immediately called her aunt to celebrate. According to the actress:
"Everyone was so proud and so happy, and just so excited for me, which is great. We all love Adam Sandler movies, and we're all obsessed with them, so they were just my number one cheerleaders with all of it."

Following the experience, Bella said her confidence has transformed completely. More than anything, she explained, the project taught her to trust herself and stop overthinking every moment — a lesson years in the making after patiently waiting for her opportunity to finally arrive.
